We target a ratio of 5:1 during Learn & Earn sessions. Tutors group together students based on their subject deficiencies, and stay with them throughout the program to guarantee familiarity. Learn & Earn year 2 has 15 scheduled tutoring sessions during the 2014-2015 school year. Sessions occur every other Saturday except for holidays and school breaks. Learn & Earn provides the incentive that many low-income students do not receive, and encourages students that success now, turns to long-term success later. During the first year of the program, we saw great improvement. 87% of students who attended 7 or more sessions improved in math, and 70% in reading.Our goal in year two is to focus on improvement in test scores, and improvement in attendance. Our data shows – significantly – that attendance positively correlates with improved test scores. Now, we search for the funding that will help guarantee attendance throughout the program.
